Hi! I'm John, the candlemaker at Dry Creek Candles. I live in the hills of rural middle Tennessee with my partner, Lee.
We have a beautiful 18 acre piece of land that sits on a fabulous creek, Dry Creek. While the creek has never been
dry here in front of the house, it has been flowing through the yard in a flash flood! (Bottom pic)
I began teaching myself to make candles in 1996 and in 1997 converted an old chicken coop into a candle studio. At the time, I had no idea what it would look like, but managed to create a space that worked for many years. The studio gave me the space to teach myself the art of candlemaking. After many years of wanting a new studio, that dream became a reality in August 2005 with the assistance of Lee & many friends. (Check out the TOUR page to see it being built)
Most of the equipment used in making the hand-dipped tapers, I have made myself, including the dippers and the wheel contraption that holds them.(Shown here.)|
The equipment that I haven't made is simple kitchen equipment(hot plate, pots, & thermometer) and a galvanized dipping vat.
Our products are made with the least amount of additives to give you clean burning,
